I painted this picture when I was 11 years old. The year 1983 is visible on the wall calendar. Luckily, my parents kept this childhood drawing, as well as many others – pictures on which I lovingly drew in great detail, using up countless felt-tip pens.
This picture pleases me especially because it seems that back then, at the age of 11, I already knew what I wanted to do later in life - and what my living space might look like.
And indeed: so many years later, my place looks almost exactly the same today!
Always a pen in hand – yes – but now it's a laptop, which of course didn't even exist back then. Stacks of books to the right and left – that's right! Several volumes of my own works in the cupboard – that's also correct.
What's absolutely crazy is that on the left shelf above the sofa, "My Secret Diary" is next to "By Mia." Guess three times what pseudonym I came up with a few years ago: "Mia..." - When I saw that name on the book, I could hardly believe it.
A tree stands outside the window and is just as bare as in the picture. Even the little things: games, small wooden dolls, an alarm clock, a newspaper – you'll still find all of these things at my place. Slippers in front of the sofa, too. We probably have mice as well, but they're outside and thankfully not in the house.
My partner already suggested we paint the walls like in the picture. Today I at least managed to shorten and sew some old curtains that match this child's drawing. All that's missing is the cat! And I still need to sew the dress.
Otherwise, everything is just as I imagined it 43 years ago.
